The palette of my heart

My sky, tangerine with the setting sun

Had shifted into the night

Etched with hues of dark blues

That chased away the light

It was hard to find the beauty in it,

But the moon still shined upon me.

Then soon the dawn was to come,

Cheerful jays of teals and grey

Serenading rays of golden hope

That hopefully would soon brighten my day.

The night was full of suffering,

But with the morning came some promise.

As fate would have it,

The azure beauty soon turned pale

Light was obscured by clouds mundane

That spewed their sorrowful hail.

It was not easy to cling to hope,

But grace was sufficient to press on.

The evening came soon enough

And with it a soothing mist,

I was blessed as I looked up to it,

Soaked in navy by heaven’s kiss

I never thought I’d make it this far

That I could be so free

It was your smile

The things that make you who you are

That came, glorious over the horizon,

That have me gazing in the stars

You might not have seen it just yet,

But look up, and see the palette of my heart.

Real Talk: Don’t listen to that; that’s devil music!!!

You know what really gets me on edge sometimes? When I hear people make statements like “If the song doesn’t have the name Jesus in it, that it’s not a Christian song!” or “that you in the song could be anybody! How do we know that it’s not some girl?” Are we serious brethren? I have heard A LOT of complaints about some songs nowadays, that they “sound too much like the world” or that “the people who sing it are just in it for the money” and I wonder to myself, is this what we have really come to?

Many a people quote this lovely scripture that they then proceed to ram down little Christian  youths and brainwash them, saying that we should not conform to the world, but is that Paul really meant when speaking to the Romans? that we should completely shun everything that looks like the world? I would love to think not, for in Corinthians 9:22 this self same Paul said that he became all things unto all men that he may win some.

What he meant was to have a MINDSET different to the world; we live in this world, and so how can we possibly not live like the world? Simple case in point of what I mean:last week I had to wait for public transportation. I had to reach to church for a practice session, and ended up leaving the taxi stand the time that the practice commenced. Did I complain? Did I worry? no, but those around me did. They were frustrated; ready to rip someone’s head off. But me? None of that! I exercised that perfect patience, and even though I was late, I ended up reaching before they could have even started… a different mindset is all you need.

So back to the matter at hand: the music. Psalm 24:1 tells us that the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. What does this have to do with music? Everything. God created music, sound, and just about everything you could think of… so how could one type of music in itself be bad? I frown when I think about the heavy metal kid who gets turned away from his church because his music is “devil music”. That could be all the kid knows, and who’s to say he can’t worship the Almighty God with his heavy metal? All I ever heard about a prerequisite for worship was that they must worship in spirit and in truth. No genre of music has ever made it impossible to do that. And to those who say this was used for that and the other, does it make the tool itself evil? Does a gun kill people?

The next issue is those of the Christian artistes in the industry who are labelled as “doing it for the money”. And to those I say: SO WHAT?  First of all, how they make their living is up to them, and their actions are accountable to God, NOT you. Many of those ‘moneymakers’ have done much more in the kingdom of God, using their public influence to spread the gospel while you sit in your comfort zone and criticize. Their music is not their only form of ministry, and perhaps not even their ministry at all, so please, friends, don’t judge, don’t condemn. If you don’t like the music, then don’t listen to it! And don’t try to ruin it for others either.

Now mind you, there are wolves in sheep’s clothing out there, and so you must use wisdom. It’s not unlikely for someone to label themselves as Christians, and then preach ungodly values from their pulpits of profit. You shall know them by their fruits! Their music may promote things that are not of God, and by that I  mean contrary to what His word preaches, and not simply leaving out the gospel message in every verse of their lyrics… after all, we are body, soul and spirit, and so have different expressions of self, that are not exclusive to God. God desires us to worship with EVERYTHING we are! Jesus chastised the pharisees for studying the tiny things, like tithes, and neglecting the weightier matters, like love, faith and the like… please, PLEASE let us not do the same.

So folks, I end of this with the scripture that many an old folk use to brainwash the present generation, and hope that you now see it for what it really is:

Romans 12:2

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Hope you have a blessed day folks! Love you guys loads 😀

Worship in the rain

ImageCould there ever be something more insane,

than worship in the rain?

that in this melancholic atmosphere

you loose out all your pain?

everything’s falling around you

it’s murky, dank and filled with disdain

Yet you’re reaching you to the mighty Jehovah

Who’s cleaning all your guilty stains;

Elijah waited upon the Lord,

and the mighty winds arose

He could’ve sworn he heard something,

but there was not even a ghost

the earthquake came and fires raged

and God was not to be found,

but after was a still, small voice

and he heardthe most heavenly sound

So what merits me,

to drown all of my fears

in the hum of my heart’s song

Amidst the spate of sky tears?

You could say what you want,

but I will not refrain,

I will keep reaching out,

And worship in the rain.

Real Talk: I can’t, I’m Just a child!

Indulge me for a second. Consider the following scenario:

You’ve been praying to Him (Jesus) all your life, begging, asking Him to just show up and tell you what to do with your life. Been reading His word, seeking His face and even fasting about it. And then, after all that, He speaks, but it’s not what you expected AT ALL.

So what do you do? “Some” of us merely say that’s not what He wants for us, because it doesn’t sound like whereHe (we) would want our lives to go. Others make excuses of why they can’t do it… imagine us, lowly, sinful, imperfect humans trying to tell God, the Almighty, sovereign and holy Jehovah that He made a mistake… the audacity we have as Christians! And believe you me, it’s not just us; even those in the Bible made the same mistakes as us, Moses for example. But the person I want to mention today is Jeremiah the prophet.

At first, many would be wondering… “Jeremiah? wasn’t he one of leh babehthe great prophets ordained by God? How could he have refused God?” Well, it turns out he did. Jeremiah responded to God’s great call by saying “behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.” You know what God said to him after that? He said, (paraphrasing) “You better believe that you’re going son, whether you like it or not. And don’t even think about being scared, otherwise I will make a fool out of you before all the people.”

Now that’s what I’m talking about! Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” He plans on taking you somewhere, and it doesn’t depend on you. So MAN UP! don’t be a child and say why He can’t, but be a man like Paul and say that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!

If God says He’ll take you there, there’s no power, strength, circumstance or person who could stop you… Except yourself! So go forth my friends, don’t ask Him to lead you if you don’t plan on following; don’t try to follow what He didn’t lead you to… Have a blessed day folks!

Passion; distinct, painful.

A passion, familiar and serene
Has once again invaded the scene
A spectacular array of glamorous torture
That poisons hearts and cuts them clean
It’s a thrill, this love thing.
A delusional high that leaves you high and dry
Until into the sheets you crawl
Wishing you’d never have loved at all
But yet u still cleave to it.
You cling to the hope, and tear shed dream
Of that special person, your spouse to be
And all that ever happens to you
Is that you wake up another day, hopeful yet crushed
Just pleading for something new.
And then they come by,
Renew your emotional high
Making you feel as everything’s gonna be ok
You stand there, smug expression on your face,
Counting the seconds until they walk away.
And they leave you there, carrying on with their normal lives
As if you never existed,
String you along with devices of your own making,
Bringing so much disappointment it soon feels scripted.
The never ending cycle, passion, loss anxiety
Creeps up once more,
And your left wondering,
How can I be sure?
There is a love, that never has failed you yet however,
But you perhaps have never noticed
It’s origin is no mystery
But many simply choose to ignore it
For it seems so far away, unreal as it could ever be
But yet so tender and joyful to those who hold it dearly.
It’s the love of a God, a miracle working savior,
Who sent His Son so that you two could be together
It’s a love that is independent of the just and the unjust,
And many love Him because He first loved us
Perhaps you may be suffering from that eternal struggle of that spouse to be,
But His love is greater, and lasts for eternity.
So maybe you haven’t tried Him, is there anything really to lose?
Or is there something to gain?
Go on in your life of misery,
Or live happy and free, losing all your guilty stains…
It’s your choice… choose wisely

Why hello there my fine soon to be friends, this right here is my first post and so I’d just like to give a quick introduction as to what this blog shall entail. Basically, as the name suggests, it’s going to be about things pertaining to the heart; my heart.

And one is right to ask, what about my heart? So the plan is to write poetry, short stories and the like to express my feelings, emotions and beliefs, all into one little swirl of creativity to share portions of my life, hoping that someone out there can be blessed, relate and be encouraged in some way, form or fashion by the works of my slightly insane mind, if I do say so myself.

So if you’re reading this tonight, that is, the 23rd of June where I’m from, know that another post will be put in soon about my most recent poem, displaying just what I mean when I say matters of the heart. So I do hope you enjoy, and I’m excited to see what’s in store with this little blog right here.
